About Carmageddon 64
Carmageddon 64 came out in 2000 for the Nintendo 64, developed by Torus Games. It was part of that wave of 3D driving games on the console, a time when developers were still figuring out how to translate chaotic car combat into a 3D space. You got a lot of games trying to capture that destructive feel, and this was one of them.
You control a driver in a heavily armed vehicle, and your main goal is to win races. The twist is that you can also win by taking out all the other cars or, most infamously, by running over every pedestrian on the map. The signature mechanics are the power-ups you collect to repair your car or get better weapons, and the open arenas that let you hunt for targets freely. The pacing is frantic, with other cars constantly trying to wreck you, and the physics are loose, making control a constant challenge. It feels like a messy, chaotic scramble from start to finish.
