Captain Tsubasa VS is one of those old-school Game Boy soccer games that somehow makes tiny sprites feel epic. You pick your team—Japan, Brazil, etc.—and then it's straight into fast, arcade-style matches where every shot feels like it could be the game-winner. The controls are simple (pass, shoot, tackle), but timing matters way more than you'd think at first.
What’s cool is how the game leans into the manga/anime vibe—super shots actually look like they’re ripped from the comics, with these little flashy effects that were pretty impressive for a Game Boy screen. Defense is brutal though; one mistimed tackle and you’re basically handing the other team a free goal. It’s the kind of game where you’ll lose 3-2, swear you’re done, and then immediately restart because you know you can nail that last-minute bicycle kick next time.
