Captain Tsubasa 2 came out for the NES in 1990, developed and published by Tecmo. You control a team of young soccer players, moving them across a top-down field to pass and shoot. The main objective is to win the tournament, progressing through a series of matches. The signature mechanics are the special shot gauges and one-on-one duels. To perform a powerful shot or a saving catch, you stop a moving cursor within a narrow colored zone on a meter. During defensive encounters, you have to quickly match a sequence of button presses to successfully tackle or block. The game has a deliberate pace, with matches often decided by these precise timing challenges, and the difficulty can be steep when facing stronger teams.
