Captain America & The Avengers on NES is one of those classic beat 'em ups where you pick your hero—Cap, Iron Man, Hawkeye, or Vision—and just start punching robots. The Red Skull’s up to his usual nonsense, brainwashing villains to do his dirty work, so it’s your job to wreck his plans level by level.

First thing you’ll notice? The sprites are surprisingly detailed for an NES game—Cap’s shield actually looks like metal, and Iron Man’s repulsor blasts have this satisfying zap to them. The controls are simple (jump, punch, shoot), but each hero plays a little differently. Hawkeye’s arrows feel great for picking off enemies from a distance, while Vision’s laser beam melts through crowds.

It’s got that classic arcade feel—enemies swarm you, bosses like Ultron show up with ridiculous health bars, and the two-player mode turns it into a chaotic mess (in the best way). Just don’t expect deep strategy—this is pure, button-mashing superhero fun. The soundtrack’s got that crunchy NES energy too, especially the boss theme.

It’s not the hardest beat ā€˜em up out there, but there’s something satisfying about plowing through waves of robots with a friend. The game’s got its jank—some hit detection is iffy, and good luck figuring out what Vision’s "density shift" actually does—but it’s a solid time if you’re into retro superhero brawlers.
