Bust a Move '99 came out for the Nintendo 64 in 1998, developed by Taito. It was part of that wave of puzzle games on the N64, a system better known for its 3D platformers and racers. This one stood out if you were looking for something more methodical to play with a friend on the couch.

You control a cursor at the bottom of the screen, aiming and firing colored bubbles upward. The main goal is to clear each screen of bubbles by matching three or more of the same color. Your main tools are the angle of your shot and the ability to bank bubbles off the walls. The screen scrolls downward periodically, adding pressure as the bubble mass gets closer to the bottom line. It starts simple but the later puzzles require you to plan several shots ahead to set up chain reactions. The feeling of clearing a complicated screen with one well-placed bubble is deeply satisfying.
