I first played Bust-A-Move 3 DX on my Game Boy in 1998. It was a Taito release, one of many puzzle games that thrived on that handheld. During that era, a good portable puzzle game was essential, and this was a solid entry. It didn't try to reinvent the wheel, but it offered a familiar, comfortable kind of challenge.

You control a small cannon at the bottom of the screen, aiming and firing colored bubbles upward. The main goal is to clear each screen of all bubbles by matching three or more of the same color. The key mechanics involve banking shots off the side walls to hit tricky angles and creating chain reactions; popping one group can cause a whole connected section to fall. The game starts gently but the pace quickens, and the later puzzles demand careful planning as the ceiling slowly descends. It feels satisfying to line up a perfect shot and watch a large chunk of the playfield disappear at once.
