Bust-A-Move 2 on Game Boy is one of those games that looks simple until you realize you’ve been hunched over your screen for an hour trying to line up the perfect shot. You control this little dinosaur at the bottom of the screen, firing colored bubbles upward to match and pop clusters before they crush you. The first few levels ease you in, but then the ceiling starts dropping faster, and suddenly you’re sweating over whether to go for that tricky ricochet or play it safe.
What I love is how satisfying it feels when you pull off a long chain reaction—those bubbles pop with this cheerful little *plink* sound, and the whole column just collapses. Bub and Bob (the dinosaurs) cheer you on with these goofy animations, which is weirdly motivating when you’re down to your last few shots. The music’s got that classic upbeat puzzle-game vibe, too—catchy but not annoying after the 50th retry.
It’s the kind of game you pick up for “just one level” and then realize you’ve been playing through lunch. Still holds up surprisingly well on the tiny Game Boy screen.
