Burning Paper on the Game Boy is one of those weird little games that somehow sticks with you. You’ve got this tiny flame at the bottom of the screen, and your job is to burn scrolling sheets of paper without letting the fire die out or spread too far. Sounds simple, right? Then the patterns start getting trickier—zigzags, gaps, sudden speed changes—and suddenly you’re leaning into every turn like it’s a racing game.

The pixel art is pure late-’90s handheld charm, all chunky sprites and satisfying crackle sounds when you nail a combo. I kept expecting it to get repetitive, but the way the mechanics evolve (wait till you see what happens when wind gets introduced) makes it weirdly gripping. Not gonna lie, my first few tries ended in accidental infernos, but once you get the rhythm down, it’s the perfect mix of tense and zen.

If you’ve got a soft spot for Game Boy oddities or just want something that plays like nothing else, this one’s worth dusting off.
