Bugs Bunny's Birthday Blowout is one of those NES games that looks way more fun than it actually is—but hey, it’s got charm. You hop around as Bugs, swinging a comically oversized mallet at random enemies (because apparently that’s how rabbits celebrate birthdays). The controls are a little stiff, and some of the jumps feel unfair, but smashing bricks and deflecting projectiles with the mallet never gets old.
Each level ends with a boss fight against classic Looney Tunes characters like Sylvester or the Tasmanian Devil, which is cool if you’re into nostalgia. The carrot collecting is mostly pointless, but the hearts actually matter because this game loves throwing cheap hits at you. It’s not the best platformer out there, but if you grew up with these characters, it’s hard not to smile at the weirdness of it all.
