About Bram Stoker's Dracula (europe)
Bram Stoker's Dracula for the NES came out in 1993, a time when movie tie-ins were common on the system. Sony Imagesoft published this particular version, which was developed by Probe Entertainment. It arrived late in the NES lifecycle, competing with the newer 16-bit consoles.
You control Jonathan Hacker, a character based on the film, moving screen by screen through side-scrolling levels. Your main goal is to hunt Dracula through locations like London's streets and his castle, using a sword for close combat and a cross that fires projectiles at enemies. The game involves platforming across gaps, defeating various creatures, and collecting items to restore health. The pacing is deliberate, with some levels feeling quite long, and the difficulty can be unforgiving, especially with limited continues. Playing it feels like a methodical, sometimes punishing, trek through a gothic action platformer.
