About Booby Kids
Booby Kids came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1986, published by Nichibutsu. It was a home conversion of their arcade game, arriving during a time when many Japanese developers were porting their coin-op titles to the NES. You control one of two kids, exploring a large, multi-screen cave system to collect scattered treasure. The main goal is to find all the loot and then locate the exit before a timer runs out.
Movement is screen by screen; you dig through soft dirt to create tunnels, avoid enemies, and drop rocks on their heads. You can also collect power-ups that let you shoot or move faster. The pacing is methodical, as you carefully plan your digging routes to avoid getting trapped, but the difficulty comes from aggressive enemies and the constant time pressure. Playing it feels like a tense race against the clock in a maze of your own making.
