Bomber Man Hero on the N64 is one of those weird, kinda experimental takes on the series—instead of the usual grid-based bombing chaos, you get this side-scrolling action-adventure thing where you’re basically a tiny knight with a bomb launcher. Yeah, it’s as bizarre as it sounds, but somehow it works.
You’re trying to save Princess Mirian (because of course you are), and the levels throw these mix of platforming and light puzzle-solving at you. The controls take a sec to get used to—jumping feels a little floaty, and aiming bombs mid-air is oddly satisfying once you nail it. Some of the power-ups are wild, like this spinning bomb shield that makes you feel unstoppable for about 30 seconds before you inevitably blow yourself up anyway.
It’s not the deepest game, but there’s charm in how janky and earnest it is. If you’re into obscure N64 oddities, this one’s a fun little time capsule.
