Bokosuka Wars came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1984, published by ASCII Corporation. It was one of those early NES titles that felt experimental, a game that didn't quite fit into a single category and arrived before many of the console's defining classics.

You control a king leading a small army across a side-scrolling battlefield. Your goal is to march from the left side of the screen to the right, conquering each screen to advance while fighting enemy soldiers. You can switch between your king and other units, each with their own strengths; the king uses a sword for close combat, while archers can attack from a distance. As you defeat enemies, some of your fallen soldiers can be revived to bolster your forces, creating a constant push and pull for map control. The game moves quickly and is quite difficult, demanding careful positioning and unit management to survive. It feels like a tense, chaotic scramble to keep your army from being completely overrun.
