About Blues Brothers 2000
Blues Brothers 2000 came out for the Nintendo 64 in 2000, published by Titus Interactive. It was one of those late era N64 titles that arrived when the system's library was pretty well established, a licensed game based on the movie sequel. You don't see many people talking about it now, but it was there on the shelf alongside more familiar names.
You control Elwood Blues, and sometimes his new brother Mighty Mack, as you run and jump through side scrolling levels to get the band back together. The main goal is to find all the band members scattered across different stages, which involves a lot of platforming and collecting musical notes. Signature mechanics include using your microphone as a weapon to stun enemies and a rhythm based section where you must press buttons in time with the music. The pacing is often slow because the characters feel heavy to control, and the difficulty comes from awkward jumps and enemy placement that can feel cheap. Playing it feels like wrestling with the controller just to get through a level, a constant push against the game's own mechanics.
