Blaster Master Jr. came out for the Game Boy in 1991, published by Sunsoft. It was part of that wave of late 80s and early 90s games that tried to bring complex console adventures to the small screen. You got a full action game with exploration, all crammed into a portable cartridge.

You control a character named Jason, who pilots a small tank. The main goal is to explore a large, interconnected map, screen by screen, to find and destroy a series of alien bosses. You do a lot of driving and jumping in the tank across the overworld, but when you find a cave entrance, you get out and continue on foot. The on-foot sections are side-view platforming areas where you use a simple blaster. You collect power-ups for both your tank's weapons and your personal blaster to deal with tougher enemies. The game can be difficult, with some precise platforming required and a need to remember the sprawling map layout. It feels like a condensed, personal adventure where every new corridor you uncover matters.
