Black Bass: Lure Fishing on Game Boy is one of those weirdly satisfying little time-wasters. You pick your lure—some work better in certain spots, others just get ignored—and then it’s all about timing the cast and reeling in without snapping the line. The bass fight back, and the bigger ones take forever to tire out.
It’s not flashy, but there’s something weirdly zen about it. The pixelated water, the occasional splash when a fish bites, even the way the rod bends when you’ve hooked something heavy. I spent way too much time as a kid trying to beat my own high scores.
If you’ve got a Game Boy lying around, it’s still a solid way to kill half an hour pretending you’re not stuck indoors.
