About Bird Week (japan)
Bird Week came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1986, published by Nintendo themselves. It was part of that early wave of NES games where developers were trying out all sorts of ideas, and this one was a simple, quiet simulation. You don't control a hero or a spaceship; you are responsible for a nest of baby birds.
You play by using a cursor to guide the mother bird. Your main job is to catch butterflies and feed them to your chicks. Each time you successfully deliver food, the babies grow a little, changing color and eventually getting ready to leave the nest. The game progresses screen by screen, with the seasons changing in the background from spring to summer. It's a slow, deliberate process, and missing too many butterflies can mean your birds don't survive. The entire experience feels calm and focused, a small, repetitive task of care.
