About Bird Week
Bird Week came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1986, published by Pony Canyon. It was one of many simple, early NES titles that tried to capture a younger audience with a cute concept rather than complex action. You don't hear much about it now, but it had a specific, quiet kind of challenge.
You control a small bird trying to guide its three fledglings south for the winter. The main goal is to move your entire family from the top of the screen to the bottom, screen by screen, while avoiding enemies like cats and snakes. Your signature mechanics are herding your chicks, who follow you in a line, and using a limited feather attack to stun predators momentarily. The pacing is slow and deliberate, as a single mistake can cause you to lose a chick and force a restart of the entire stage. It feels like a tense, careful escort mission where every screen is a new puzzle of timing and pathfinding.
