Bikkuri Nekketsu Shinkioku is one of those Kunio-kun spin-offs that feels like it got lost in translation—but in a good way. You start off with Kunio and the gang throwing punches in classic side-scrolling brawler fashion, but then it throws in these weird RPG-ish elements where you’re suddenly managing stats and picking dialogue options. The pixel art’s got that rough, chunky Game Boy charm, and the music’s exactly the kind of tinny banger you’d expect.
At first, I thought it was just another beat-em-up, but then I got stuck in this weird minigame where you have to balance on a log while enemies chuck stuff at you. Classic Kunio-kun nonsense. If you’re into the series, it’s a fun little oddity—just don’t expect it to play like River City Ransom. The controls take some getting used to, but once you’re in, it’s hard to put down.
