Okay, so Best of the Best is one of those early Game Boy fighting games that somehow makes karate feel both stiff and chaotic at the same time. You pick from a handful of fighters—each with their own weirdly exaggerated animations—and then it's just you, some tiny pixelated kicks, and a health bar that drains way too fast.
The controls take a second to get used to (good luck pulling off that spinning kick consistently), but there's something oddly satisfying about landing a lucky punch and watching your opponent stumble back. The stages are barebones, just a static background with a crowd that doesn’t even pretend to react, but hey, it’s Game Boy—what did you expect?
It’s definitely not deep, but if you’re into janky old-school fighters, this one’s a weird little time capsule. Just don’t go in expecting Street Fighter.
