Okay, so Beetlejuice on Game Boy is exactly as weird as you’d hope—in a good way. You start off in this grayscale, pixelated version of the movie’s afterlife, jumping between the living world and the ghostly one. The controls are classic Game Boy clunky (you’ll get used to it), but the vibe? Spot-on.

First thing you’ll notice: the music. It’s got that eerie carnival vibe, like someone remixed Danny Elfman on a potato. Then you’re immediately tossing snakes at people (because of course you are) and dodging floating furniture. Some of the puzzles are honestly confusing—like, why is there a giant sandwich in my way?—but it’s all part of the charm.

If you grew up with the movie, the little details will hit you right in the nostalgia. The sandworms look ridiculous in 8-bit, and Beetlejuice’s sprite nails his chaotic energy. Just don’t expect it to hold your hand. You’ll die a lot figuring out what the heck you’re supposed to do next.

It’s janky, it’s silly, and it’s 100% a time capsule of licensed games from the ‘90s. Worth a play if you’re into that era’s weirdness.
