About Beethoven's 2nd (europe)
I first played Beethoven's 2nd on my Game Boy in 1993. It was published by Hi Tech Expressions, one of those many licensed games that filled the shelves back then. This was during the peak of the original Game Boy's life, a time when any cartoon or movie seemed to get its own portable adventure. The game is based on the film of the same name, following the further misadventures of the St. Bernard.
You control Beethoven, navigating him through side-scrolling levels. Your main goal is to find and rescue his puppies, which are hidden in various locations. The gameplay involves a lot of jumping across platforms and avoiding enemies like other animals and obstacles. You can use a bark attack to stun foes temporarily, and you'll need to search each screen carefully for collectible bones and the hidden puppies. The pacing is methodical, requiring you to check every nook, and the difficulty can be unforgiving with precise jumps needed. It feels like a straightforward, sometimes challenging, quest from that era of platformers.
