Battlezone: Rise of the Black Dogs is one of those N64 gems that never got enough love. You start off piloting this beefy hover tank—feels like driving a futuristic snowplow with guns—and right away, you're thrown into these weirdly tactical battles where terrain actually matters. Like, you can't just rush in spraying lasers; you gotta use hills for cover or flank around lava pits.
The single-player missions get surprisingly deep for an N64 shooter—one minute you're escorting convoys, the next you're sneaking behind enemy lines to sabotage their base. And the multiplayer? Absolute chaos in the best way. Four players, split-screen, tanks flipping everywhere because someone thought ramming at full speed was a good idea. The controls take a minute to click (that N64 stick wasn't made for precision tank maneuvers), but once they do, it's hard to put down.
Also, the Black Dogs faction has these sleek black tanks that just look cooler than everyone else's. No surprise they're the villains.
