About Battletoads
Battletoads on the Game Boy came out in 1991, developed by Rare and published by Tradewest. It was one of many side-scrolling action games on the system, but it stood out for bringing the franchise's particular style to a handheld. You got the same kind of brawling action as the home console versions, just scaled down for the small screen.
You control one of the Battletoads, fighting through levels to rescue your captured comrades. The main objective is to progress screen by screen, defeating waves of enemies. Signature mechanics include using your oversized fists and feet for combat, and navigating vehicles in certain stages, like the speeder bikes. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty is notoriously high, especially in later levels. It feels frantic and demanding, requiring quick reflexes to survive.
