Okay, so imagine smashing together Double Dragon and Battletoads—two of the gnarliest beat-'em-ups from the '90s—into one tiny Game Boy cartridge. That’s this game. You pick either the dragon brothers or the mutant toads (I always went with Rash because, well, look at him) and punch your way through waves of thugs. The sprites are tiny but surprisingly detailed, and the music’s got that classic chiptune grit.
It’s not as smooth as the console versions, but there’s something weirdly satisfying about wrecking enemies with a flying kick on the go. Just don’t expect it to go easy on you—this is still a Battletoads game, after all. The final boss had me resetting my Game Boy more times than I’d like to admit.
