Ever played Zelda II or Metroid and wished there was more Greek mythology mixed in? The Battle of Olympus is basically that—a side-scrolling adventure where you play as Orpheus, desperately trying to rescue his girlfriend Helene from Hades. (Yeah, that Hades.)
It’s got that same mix of exploration and combat, but with gods popping up to toss you upgrades or cryptic advice. The first time I played, I got stuck for way too long because I didn’t realize you could actually talk to some of the NPCs—turns out Athena gives you a shield if you bother to listen. The controls take a second to get used to, but once you’ve got the rhythm down, smashing harpies with a club feels pretty satisfying.
Just don’t expect it to go easy on you—this one’s got that classic NES level of “figure it out or die trying.”
