Battle Arena Toshinden was a big deal back in '94—one of the first 3D fighters on PlayStation, and it actually felt fresh compared to the sea of Street Fighter clones. The characters swing swords and spears instead of just fists, and that sidestep dodge? Game-changer. I remember spending way too much time trying to land Eiji’s ridiculous flips.
On Game Boy, obviously, it’s not the same spectacle—more like a stripped-down, chunky version of the arcade vibe. But if you’re into retro fighters, there’s something weirdly charming about mashing buttons to make Sho’s oversized sword animations play out in pixel form. Just don’t expect the smoothness of the console original.
