About Battletanx - Global Assault (e)
BattleTanx: Global Assault came out for the Nintendo 64 in 1999, developed by 3DO. It was part of that late 90s wave of N64 games that really pushed local multiplayer, sitting alongside titles like GoldenEye and Mario Kart 64. You got a solid single player campaign, but the real draw for me and my friends was always the four player battles.
You control a futuristic tank commander, driving through post apocalyptic cities to rescue survivors and fight rival factions. Your main goal is to reclaim territory and protect your queen, which involves a lot of blowing things up. The signature mechanics are your different tank weapons, like nukes and rail guns, and the ability to deploy a shield for a quick defense. The pacing is fast; you are constantly scanning for enemy tanks and managing your limited special ammo. It feels chaotic and immediate, like a high stakes game of tag where everyone has a cannon.
