BattleCity on Game Boy is one of those classic tank games that somehow never gets old. You start off with this tiny green tank, blasting away at enemy units while dodging their shots—simple, but surprisingly tense when the screen fills up with bullets. The Japanese version tweaks some stuff from the original, like tougher enemy patterns, which keeps you on your toes.
At first, I thought the controls would feel clunky, but they’re actually pretty smooth for a Game Boy title. The pixel art is clean, and the chiptune soundtrack nails that retro warzone vibe. Just don’t get too cocky—those enemy tanks love to gang up on you if you linger in one spot for too long.
If you’re into old-school arcade-style shooters, this one’s a solid pick.
