Sunsoft's Batman: The Video Game on NES is way better than most movie tie-ins have any right to be. Yeah, it's based on Tim Burton's 1989 flick, but don't expect some lazy cash grab—this thing plays like a proper action platformer with tight controls and surprisingly moody visuals for an 8-bit game.
You start off punching thugs in Gotham's streets, then quickly get into swinging from grappling hooks and tossing Batarangs. The first level nails that dark, gothic vibe with flickering neon signs and a killer soundtrack that still gets stuck in my head. Boss fights against guys like the Electrocutioner actually feel challenging without being cheap—though that wall-jumping mechanic takes some getting used to.
It's short, sure, but the difficulty keeps you replaying. Just don't throw your controller when you die to Joker's final form.
