About Bases Loaded 4
Bases Loaded 4 came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993, a time when the 16-bit consoles were already taking over. Jaleco published it, sticking with the NES library for one more baseball season. It was part of that late wave of 8-bit sports games, trying to squeeze a bit more out of the familiar hardware before everyone moved on.
You control a full baseball team, managing the lineup and taking the field for every pitch. The main goal is to win the pennant by playing through a full season against the other teams. A couple of its specific mechanics include the pitcher/batter duel, where you aim the pitch and time your swing, and the fielding view that switches to a close-up for ground balls and pop flies. The game has a deliberate pace, especially during pitching sequences, and the computer opponents can be stubbornly difficult to score against. It feels like a patient, sometimes frustrating, test of your timing and strategy.
