Balloon Fight is one of those classic NES games that looks cute but gets surprisingly intense. You’ve got these two little balloons strapped to your back, and if you’re not careful, a single enemy pop sends you plummeting into the water below. The controls are dead simple—just float around and bump into other balloon-carrying weirdos to knock them out.

At first, it feels almost too easy, but then the screen fills up with enemies, lightning starts zapping across the sky, and suddenly you’re sweating over keeping just one balloon intact. The underwater sections where you rescue stranded survivors are a nice break from the chaos, though. It’s the kind of game where you’ll yell at the screen when you lose your last balloon mid-air.

Simple, addictive, and way more stressful than it has any right to be.
