Bakenou V3 is one of those Game Boy games that feels like it got lost in the shuffle back in the day—which is a shame, because it’s got this weird charm to it. You start off in this little pixel world where everything looks simple, but then the puzzles start creeping in, and suddenly you’re scratching your head trying to figure out how to get past a room full of moving blocks.

The controls are tight, which helps when you’re dodging enemies or timing jumps just right. I remember getting stuck on this one screen for way too long before realizing the solution was stupidly obvious. That’s the kind of game it is—makes you feel clever when you finally get it, even if it takes a few tries.

If you’re into retro puzzlers with a side of platforming, this one’s worth dusting off the old Game Boy for. Just don’t blame me when you lose track of time.
