About Back To The Future
Back to the Future came out for the NES in 1989, developed by Beam Software and published by LJN. It was one of many movie tie-ins from that period, a time when you could expect to find almost any film adapted for the console, usually with mixed results. This game tried to capture the spirit of the first film, sending you back to 1955 just like Marty.
You control Marty McFly, moving screen by screen through Hill Valley. Your main goal is to collect enough clock icons before time runs out, which is shown by a family photograph that slowly fades at the bottom of the screen. You dodge townsfolk and obstacles, and at the end of each stage, a minigame begins. One of these has you on a skateboard, fending off Biff Tannen's gang to protect the diner; the controls in these sections feel similar to Paperboy. The game moves quickly and the difficulty spikes are noticeable, often demanding precise timing. Playing it feels like a constant race against a clock that is always ticking just a little too fast.
