About B.c. Kid (europe)
B.C. Kid came out for the Game Boy in 1992, a time when portable games were mostly simple and short. Hudson Soft published it, and it was part of a wave of platformers that tried to bring console style action to the small screen. You could tell developers were figuring out how to make the most of the hardware's limitations.
You control a small caveman named Bonk, running and jumping through prehistoric levels. Your main goal is to rescue your kidnapped girlfriend from a series of dinosaur themed stages. The signature mechanics are headbutting enemies and using your hard skull to break open certain blocks and items. You explore screen by screen, often climbing vines or bouncing off mushrooms to reach higher platforms. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly in later areas. It feels like a condensed, slightly janky version of its console counterparts, but there is a genuine charm to navigating its compact challenges.
