Astro Fang - Super Machine is one of those weird, obscure NES shooters that somehow ended up in my collection—and honestly? It's got charm. You're piloting this chunky mech thing, blasting through waves of enemies that look like they escaped from a '80s anime fever dream. The controls are stiff at first (classic NES), but once you get the hang of the weird diagonal shots, it clicks.

First level throws you right into it: floating orbs, spinning drones, and these snake-like bosses that take up half the screen. The music’s all bleeps and bloops, but in that nostalgic way where you don’t mind it looping for the hundredth time. And yeah, it’s Japanese-only, but you don’t need to read much—just shoot stuff and try not to crash into the scenery.

If you’re into retro shooters with a side of jank, this one’s a fun little time capsule. Just don’t expect it to hold your hand.
