Okay, so Asterix on NES is basically a side-scrolling beat 'em up where you play as either Asterix or Obelix (or swap between them if you're playing co-op). The story’s goofy—your buddy Alafolix is lovesick, so you’re off to Greece to help him out, which somehow leads to competing in the Olympics against Brutus and Caesar’s goons. Classic Asterix logic.

The gameplay’s simple but satisfying—you punch, jump, and occasionally pick up random stuff to throw at Romans. Obelix hits harder but moves slower, while Asterix is quicker but weaker. The levels are full of little details from the comics, like wild boars running around or those dumb Roman helmets flying off when you smack someone. It’s not the deepest fighter, but there’s something weirdly fun about plowing through waves of legionnaires while Dogmatix trots along in the background.

Fair warning: the difficulty spikes hard in later levels, especially when the game throws chariots or archers at you. Still, if you grew up with the comics or just want a silly, nostalgic brawler, it’s a solid time. Just don’t expect it to hold your hand.
