About Armadillo (japan)
Armadillo was a Japan only release for the Nintendo Entertainment System, developed by Sofel and published in 1991. It arrived late in the NES lifespan, a time when many developers were experimenting with more complex action games. The game never received an official English localization, leaving it as a curious artifact for import players.
You control a small, rolling armadillo character through a series of side scrolling stages. Your main goal is simply to survive each level, navigating past enemies and environmental hazards to reach the exit. Your primary ability is to curl into a ball, which lets you roll quickly and smash through certain blocks. You also collect power ups that grant temporary weapons, like a gun that shoots forward. The pacing is methodical; you often need to stop, observe enemy patterns, and choose the right moment to roll or attack. The difficulty is consistent, demanding careful movement rather than quick reflexes. Playing Armadillo feels like solving a series of small, physical puzzles with a unique and slightly clumsy character.
