About Arkanoid
Arkanoid came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1986, developed by Taito. It was part of that wave of arcade-style games that felt perfectly at home on the NES, offering a straightforward, single-screen challenge you could pick up quickly.
You control a small paddle called the Vaus at the bottom of the screen, using it to bounce a ball upward to destroy a formation of colored blocks. Your main goal is to clear each screen of all its blocks without letting the ball fall past your paddle. The signature mechanics include catching power-ups that drop from certain broken blocks; these can give you a longer paddle, multiple balls, or a laser to shoot the blocks directly. The game's pacing is relentless, with the ball speeding up as you progress and the block patterns becoming more complex, often requiring precise angles to hit the last few bricks. It feels satisfying to watch a screen full of blocks shatter from a well-placed shot.
