About Argus (japan)
Argus is a vertical scrolling shooter released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1986, developed by NMK. It came out during a time when the NES library was expanding with many arcade style games, and this one was a Japan only release.
You pilot a lone fighter through waves of enemy craft and intricate bullet patterns. Your main goal is to survive each stage, defeat the boss waiting at the end, and see how far you can get. The game uses a power up system where collecting certain items changes your weapon, like switching from a standard shot to a wider spread or laser. Another mechanic involves destroying specific enemy formations to reveal hidden bonus items, which adds a layer of strategy beyond just dodging. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty ramps up quickly, demanding precise movement and memorization of enemy attack routes. It feels tense and demanding, a constant test of your reflexes and patience.
