About Argus
Argus came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1986, developed by NMK. It was part of that wave of early NES titles that were still figuring out what the console could do, sitting alongside other action games that relied on straightforward, screen by screen progression. You don't hear about it as much as some other games from that year, but it has its own particular rhythm.
You control a lone adventurer exploring a large, interconnected world. Your main goal is to venture through dungeons and defeat bosses to collect pieces of a powerful artifact. The game is built on screen by screen exploration; each new screen loads as you cross the threshold, which makes the world feel segmented and deliberate. Combat is simple, involving a basic sword or projectile attack to clear the various monsters blocking your path. The pacing is methodical, and the difficulty can be steep, demanding careful movement and pattern recognition. Playing it feels like a slow, persistent crawl through a hostile and mysterious land.
