Arctic (japan) Game

Arctic (Japan) is one of those weird little NES games that somehow ended up in the wild—originally an Aussie release, but you’ve probably only seen it in ROM form. You play as a penguin (or a seal in two-player mode) sliding around icy mazes, dodging polar bears and collecting fish. The controls take a second to get used to—your character slides like they’re on actual ice, which is kinda cool but also means you’ll bump into enemies more than you’d like.
The levels are short and simple, but the polar bears get sneaky later on, hiding behind icebergs or popping up when you least expect it. Two-player mode is chaotic in the best way—you’re technically working together, but good luck not accidentally shoving your seal buddy into danger. It’s not a deep game, but there’s something charming about its janky little penguin adventure.
