Arcade Classic No. 3: Galaga & Galaxian came out for the original Game Boy in 1995, published by Nintendo. It was part of a series bringing well known arcade games to the handheld, letting you carry two of Namco's early shooters in your pocket. This was during the era when the Game Boy's green screen was the standard, and having these classics on the go was a straightforward proposition.

You control a small starship at the bottom of the screen, moving it left and right to shoot formations of alien insects. Your main goal is to survive wave after wave of enemies, clearing each screen to progress. Signature mechanics include the diving attacks from Galaga, where enemies break formation to swoop down at you, and the challenge stages in Galaga where you can earn a double ship. The pacing is relentless; enemies fire more frequently as you advance, and the difficulty ramps up quickly. It feels tense and immediate, a constant test of your reflexes and positioning against an overwhelming force.
