About Amida
Amida was a Game Boy game released in 1990 by Nintendo. It arrived early in the handheld's life, a time when developers were still exploring what worked on that small, green-tinted screen. The game is a digital adaptation of the traditional Japanese lottery game, also known as ladder climbing, where you follow a path down a branching diagram to see which prize you get.
You control a single marker that starts at the top of a ladder-like diagram. Your main objective is to guide this marker down the rungs, watching as it randomly moves left or right at each horizontal bar to determine your final outcome at the bottom. The core mechanics involve simply starting the descent and observing the unpredictable path; there is no direct control over the marker's left/right choices. The pacing is immediate, with each playthrough lasting only a few seconds, and the difficulty is nonexistent as it is purely a game of chance. It feels like a quick, simple diversion, the kind of thing you'd play for a minute while waiting for a bus.
