About America Oudan Ultra Quiz 2
I first played America Oudan Ultra Quiz 2 on my Game Boy in the early 90s. It was developed by Tose, a company known for its work on many games from that period. This title was part of a wave of Japanese quiz games that tried to translate the TV show format to a portable screen. It felt very much of its time, a straightforward attempt to bring a specific kind of challenge to the handheld.
You control a cursor, moving it to select answers from multiple choice questions that cover a wide range of topics. The main objective is to progress through the quiz by answering correctly, with each stage presenting a new set of questions. The game uses a life system, where wrong answers cost you a life and running out ends your run. You also encounter different rounds and bonus stages that break up the standard question and answer flow. The pacing is quick, and the difficulty can be steep if your general knowledge is not broad. It feels like a race against your own memory, trying to recall facts before the timer or your patience runs out.
