Altered Space is one of those weird little Game Boy gems that makes you squint at the screen for a second before it clicks. It’s got this isometric 3D look—kinda like Q*bert but with more aliens and way more head-scratching. You’re maneuvering through these maze-like levels, pushing blocks and dodging creatures that definitely don’t want you there.
At first, the perspective messes with you (I kept misjudging jumps), but once you get the hang of it, the puzzles get surprisingly clever. Some levels feel like they’re straight out of an old-school sci-fi comic, all neon grids and floating platforms. Just don’t expect it to hold your hand—half the fun is figuring out what the heck you’re even supposed to do next.
It’s the kind of game you’ll either love for its weird charm or bounce off hard after five minutes. I stuck with it, though, and it grew on me like a space fungus.
