All Star Tennis '99 is one of those N64 sports games that actually holds up surprisingly well. The controls feel tight—you’ve got your basic swings, lobs, and smashes, but timing matters way more than you’d expect at first. I remember whiffing a few returns early on before getting the hang of it.
What’s cool is the variety in courts. Grass, clay, hardcourt—they all play differently, and the ball physics actually reflect that. The multiplayer is where it shines, though. Grab a friend, and suddenly those baseline rallies get intense. It’s not as flashy as modern tennis games, but there’s a solid, no-nonsense feel to it that I still dig.
If you’re into retro sports titles, this one’s a solid serve-and-volley pick.
