About All Pro Basketball
All Pro Basketball came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990, developed by Aicom and published by Vic Tokai. It was part of that wave of early sports games trying to capture a full team experience on the 8-bit hardware, sitting alongside other basketball titles of the era without much fanfare.
You control all five players on your chosen team, switching between them to play both offense and defense with the goal of winning games and ultimately the league championship. The core mechanics involve passing, shooting from various ranges including three-pointers, and attempting slam dunks, while on defense you focus on stealing the ball and securing rebounds. The game maintains a fast pace with constant player substitution, as your teammates' stamina depletes during play and you must bench them to recover. It feels like a hectic, hands-on management of an entire team rather than controlling a single star player.
