All-Star Baseball '99 on Game Boy is one of those old-school sports games that somehow nails the feel of baseball despite the tiny screen and chunky pixels. You pick your team, step up to bat, and suddenly you're squinting at that little strike zone like it's the real thing. The pitching mechanics are simple but satisfying—time it right, and you can paint the corners with fastballs or drop in a sneaky curve.
Batting takes some getting used to (I whiffed a lot at first), but when you finally connect with a pitch and watch your little dude round the bases, it's weirdly rewarding. Stealing bases is a gamble—half the time you get caught, but when it works, you feel like a genius. The rosters are obviously dated now, but there's charm in seeing those late-90s player names pop up.
It's not the deepest baseball sim, but for a Game Boy cart, it does way more than you'd expect. Perfect for quick innings between bus rides or pretending you're Ken Griffey Jr. during lunch breaks.
