All-Star Baseball 99 was one of the better baseball games on the N64, even if it didn’t get as much hype as some of the others. The graphics were solid for the time—players actually looked like their real-life counterparts, and the stadiums had that slightly blocky but still charming N64 vibe. The pitching and batting mechanics felt weighty, not just mindless button mashing.
What I liked was the roster depth—you had actual MLB players (well, as close as licensing allowed back then), and the AI wasn’t completely brain-dead. Fielding took some getting used to, though. Sometimes your guy would just… not catch the ball for no reason. Still, if you were into baseball sims in the late ‘90s, this was a solid pick.
It’s not the flashiest game, but it holds up better than you’d expect for an N64 sports title.
